Day 4 Wroclaw - Moszna

The breakfast buffet at the hotel was splendid. We both had a large breakfast. Then we walked to Bo’s appointment at the School of Foreign Languages. The appointment was at 10 am, but we started at 9 took a relaxing walk along the river, by the university buildings where Bo studied for 5 years in the 70s, then through the oldest part of the city called Ostrow Tumski. We walked into the gothic church of St. Mary‘s on the Sand (built in 1148) in which Bo was married. Wroclaw is a very nice city. The atmosphere is so different from Warsaw. During the walk we crossed a bridge which had padlocks attached to the railings and support members. There were thousands of them. They are a statement of attachment of two people. Some had plaques.

We left the hotel parking lot around noon and started our drive to Moszna, a village near Opole close to where Bo‘s niece‘s wedding is going to take place tomorrow. Beautiful road. We passed a lot of bright yellow fields. It’s the blooming season for rape plant from which canola oil (rape seed oil) is made. It’s a popular crop in Poland.

It took us about an hour to get to Moszna. The hotel is in a castle. What a gorgeous location. Our room (suite) includes a round room contained in the tower. The castle belonged to the family of graf Tiele-Winkler who lived there until 1945 and then fled to Germany. Then, the Red Army stationed there and devastated the interiors and stole whatever was possible to remove. It has been renovated to some degree, but certainly not to its potential splendor. The castle is surrounded by a huge park. The weather was beautiful so we walked through the park and into the village. Near the castle there are also big horse stables, which were once part of the castle. Now, the owners board horses and also rent horses to the public for horse riding, ponies for kids and carriages for weddings and other events.
